The Long-Duration Energy Storage (LDES) National Consortium led by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) supports efforts to advance the commercialization and deployment with the overall goal of supporting reliable, affordable, and resilient electric service for customers.

Our Mission

The Consortium will seek to:

  • Convene stakeholders across the energy ecosystem
  • Bridge innovation and utility operations
  • Identify market, policy, and investment conditions that will best foster deployment of LDES

Our Goal

Accelerate the commercialization, scalable deployment, and industry adoption of LDES technologies in the United States to support grid reliability and affordability through collaboration and cross-sector stakeholder engagement.

What We Set Out to Do

The Consortium will convene utilities, policymakers, investors, technology developers, asset owners, and other stakeholders to understand and address barriers to LDES commercialization and deployment, and identify opportunities to advance LDES through policy, market, finance, technology, and operational frameworks. The Consortium will seek to address emerging grid modernization and energy infrastructure challenges and ensure LDES innovations are informed by operational needs and deployment experience.

Membership

The LDES Consortium is a collaborative initiative. Rather than a dues- or membership-fee-based structure, participating organizations would contribute to the Consortium through in-kind engagement, including technical expertise, working group participation, strategic coordination, information sharing, and collaborative activities that support commercialization and deployment objectives.
